You Are NOT Your Experiences!
Understanding what "trauma" is can go a long way toward helping a Being to recover from the effects of a traumatic experience, allowing the bearer of the trauma to begin making the all too important distinction between "what he or she has experienced" and "who he or she is".
In today's societies, it is not uncommon to see and listen to people describe themselves in terms of what they have experienced, instead of describing themselves in terms of who and what they are by Nature.
One may ask, "Doesn't what we experience determine who we are?" ...Not necessarily.
Our experiences come and go, yet we remain to witness them come and go. What we are, by Nature, is Constant...and Eternal; while our experiences are varied, and temporary. Therefore, if we identify more with our experiences than we identify with our Divine Nature, then our lives can very easily become very confusing and very painful.
For example, a person who continually repeats (and believes) that he or she is "a victim of ______", or is "a _______", is, by virtue of his or her "confession of faith" keeping himself in that condition, and is continually vulnerable to the circumstances that produced the condition in the first place.
Just think about all the people you've heard say, of themselves, "I'm an alcoholic"; or, "I'm a victim of racism", etc. How have so many Divine Beings become so "detached" from their true identity?
The "architects" of the popular society deliberately condition human beings to define themselves in terms of their post-birth experiences in an effort to keep them blind to the reality of their Nature as Divine Beings. If these "manipulators" can convince the people to define themselves in terms of their experiences, which are to a large degree the products of the rulers of the society, then these same manipulators can convince the public to accept their "solutions" to the public's problems. It's about "control".
Why would they do such a thing? One reason for this becomes clear when one contemplates what would happen to the "healing" industries if, all of a sudden, everyone became aware of their own Divinity and Power and Connection to the Creator. These industries would dry up and fade away for want of a sick and ailing public to extract benefit from.
To avoid such a fate, these industries work feverishly to convince people that they are the hopeless "victims" of some particular ailment or trauma which can only be "healed" through traditional methods of treatment. This "healing" usually begins with the "acceptance" on the part of the patient that he or she is a "victim of..."; and is usually followed up with a prescription for some drug that keeps the patient disabled or hindered (often creating a disorder where there was none) and keeps the Medical and Pharmaceutical Industries wealthy.
How can we break such a bond? First, one must accept the most fundamental, yet the most overlooked Truth relevant to one's survival: "I am a Divine Being -- a manifestation of the Supreme Being."
This Truth supersedes every other "claim" one makes about one's self. Therefore, if I am having difficulty quitting the use of alcohol, I should NOT say "I am an alcoholic." I should say, "I am a DIVINE BEING who is struggling with alcohol." If I have experienced racist treatment, I should not say of myself that "I am a victim of racism." Rather, I should say that "I am a DIVINE BEING who has experienced racism."
If one can successfully make this simple shift in perspective, then one can begin the process of shaking off the weighty bonds of "victimhood", and can at once begin to become empowered to heal one's self, and once again be Truly Free.
